After throwing his bag to the floor and taking a quick hot shower, Kazuma turned his computer on as soon as he reached his desk. He opened an application, a certain game called. After typing in his username and password, he quickly grabbed a gray visor-like helmet beside his PC and brought it down onto his bed with him. 'It will be fun.' Kazuma muttered to himself as he took a deep breath.
After wearing the which covered his dark brown hair, he whispered the words which was the command to initiate the said device. For a second, all the noise around him faded away and complete darkness blanketed him. A round passage way appeared in front of him which then he followed. As soon as he passed the rainbow colored circle on the middle, a mystic voice filled the atmosphere. 'Welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh! Combined Worlds Online, Yusuke Shiro.' After the unknown voice died out, Kazuma was in another world made entirely up of data.
First, he studied himself. He had a red jacket worn over a black shirt, a pair of black jeans and an outdoor boots. A brown belt was fastened loosely around his hips with a deck holster attached on it.
A gray duel disk was strapped around his left arm which weighed relatively balanced. He had an unusual hair which looked like this: the front part was red, its bangs covering his forehead. The back part was colored in black, its ends spiked fashionably. Of course, this was different from his actual body in the real world. It was a mere avatar made out of nothing but a list of options.
Kazuma turned around and found himself on a park with a huge fountain on the center. The trickling sound of water gushing out from its top sounded refreshing, like its real counterparts from the real world. A group of birds flew past above him, the flopping sounds of their wings as they glided against the wind captivated his eyes. He watched them until they disappeared behind those tall trees surrounding the park.
From the horizon, skyscrapers whizzed up the blue sky, their sheer sizes were startlingly amazing. 'Where am I?'
Kazuma muttered. A small green circle floating at the top left of his vision caught his attention. He touched it and a green rectangular box appeared with a pop. Written on that box backwards were: Deck Edit, Inventory, Status, Map, Friend List, DP, Duel, Options, Equipment, and Log Out buttons. He tapped on the button and another green box appeared next to the main screen, an unfamiliar map printed on its surface. 'Park of Kisara.' He said as he pushed his face closer to the box to gave it a better look.
He turned around and saw a huge statue molded into a form of a dragon standing behind the fountain. As he studied it, a sudden realization hit him. The dragon looked like Blue Eyes White Dragon, its mystic eyes were following him. He said as he closed the screens. He stretched up his arms, his purple eyes sparkling in awe.
He have played almost every RPGs out there but this game was the only one which filled his satisfaction into its maximum. 'I think I'll have some good time here!'
. The , which has the ability to render virtual reality, was the one driving this VRMMORPG- Yu-Gi-Oh!
As first seen on the anime , the Nerve Gear was said to be the most successful breakthrough humans had done for the last 100 years of technology's existence. Its ability to seclude one person from reality to a different world made up of a massive amount of stored data-which is the Virtual World-is really amazing. But at first, no one never saw that one coming-a fictional device turning to a real thing. It started as a mere joke within the staffs of a well-known American gaming company named Olympus Core.
But that mere joke slowly turned to a stepping stone of a great invention. Realizing the fact that this simple device can outshine any living technologies out there, they started working on it. And as of August 8, 2026, a real 'Nerve Gear' was developed. Its features were the same as the Nerve Gear seen on SAO, the same gray helmet but with a lot of upgrades and enhancements. And after months of perfecting the said product, collaborations among other gaming companies were made to create a successful VRMMORPG that can attract the eyes of million of gamers around the globe.
And after five months of negotiating, Konami has acquired a collaboration project hence, Yu-Gi-Oh! CW Online, the Card game VRMMORPG was born. Is it successful? A popular cardgame + MMORPG + in Virtual Reality?
No one could resist this. Time to time, several patches were added to enhance the gaming experience to sustain the needs of the gamers playing the game and one of the most popular patches added was the responsible of making this game even more competitive playing-the addition of the anime characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Kazuma was not really into it but as soon as they added the anime characters, he didn't hesitate but to buy and try this game out. But before diving straight into the game, everyone was obligated to create a deck, a customized deck.
But creating a deck in this game was unusual, for you are the one who will create your own cards. This method was heavily implemented among other players like Kazuma. But what's the meaning of this? As mentioned awhile ago, they have placed all the anime characters inside the game and they wanted to keep the cards to its respectable owners. As an example, Stardust Dragon can't be used by anyone except Yusei, its original owner, and so on and so forth. This was to avoid multiple cards with the same name ruining the game's unique style of gaming. But to avoid broken and overpowered cards, the developers of the game hired a board of people composed of professional workers from Konami and other thousand experienced gamers to check the card first before it can be playable by its owner.
TCG rulings and some OCG rulings were adopted to sustain every player's needs. On creating cards, the designs were all computer-generated. Just type how the card's design would be done and the computer will do all the works for you. As in how many cards someone can create, it depends. The game grants every player 50 cards for their first deck to design.
20 monsters, 10 spells, 10 traps, 10 cards for the extra deck? It's the player's choice. If a player meets all of these requirements, he can now enter Pangaea, the main stage for the game.
It was made up of 40 areas and each area was ruled by a Dark Master. The main objective of the game is to build up a clan made up of 10 players, defeat 1 'Dark Master' and conquer other areas as well. The clan who can rule at least 5 areas can have the rights to duel any anime characters they would like to duel. Interesting, isn't it? There were a lot of things to do besides dueling, such as cooking, sports, riding duel runners, and etc., allowing players to not only adventure the huge game but also actually live in it.
If they so wanted, and if their record was relatively fair enough, they could buy a house and become store owners. The moment he arrived to this world, a massive amount of excitement has conquered Kazuma. Hands clenched due to unknown reasons and a big smile drawn to his lips were the only proofs of this, however, after opening the Map window, this excitement left his body on a blink of an eye, leaving only the disappointment behind. Giving it a weird look, Kazuma scratched his head out of confusion. He couldn't locate the nearby dueling stadium on his map. A system bug or something?
He thought about it for a while. This kind of stuff was been tackled down during the tutorial.
If you couldn't find a stadium's location in your map, then it only signifies that someone has already taken it over. Being frustrated, Kazuma closed the screen and released a deep sigh. 'It seems someone has already defeated this area's Dark Master.' 'It's Spike, it's Spike!' A loud shout, which obviously belonged to a girl, destroyed the serenity of the park which has made everyone turn around including Kazuma, though it was a little bit late for him. A group of girls screaming their hearts out ran over him like a truck, their outdoor boots leaving countless marks on his red suit.
He yelled for help but it made no difference. They left him behind, lying on the dusts half-dead, literally face-downed. Kazuma questioned himself as he tried to stand up on his knees. He looked fine, neither he felt any pain. It was because it wasn't his real body after all, it was his avatar who got injured there so that's why he didn't feel anything, even a pinch of the slightest pain that you could ever think of. 'I wonder who he is.'
He muttered, scraping the dusts off his clothes. Moved by his extreme curiosity, he followed those girls as they form a huge circle on a corner of the park. 'Excuse me, passing through.' He said as he pushed his way against the noisy crowd. He managed to reach the middle though he'd never expected what would happen next. 'Please don't bother Spike-kun.' Pleaded by a cute girl on a black princess-like dress with her arms raised on a defensive way, shielding the gray-haired guy behind her who Kazuma assumed to be Spike.
Is she his girlfriend? Why's the girl the one protecting the guy? Isn't it the other way around? Well, it's the girl's attitude of adding honorifics was the only one thing that Kazuma noticed. 'I beg all of you to let him as he is, he doesn't want to be disturbed.' She added with a determined look on her emerald eyes, her white shoulder length hair swaying as she speak.
'Why are you telling us to stay away? Who do you think you are, her girlfriend? If not, then it is you who has to stay away, not us.'
One of the girls scowled which made the latter blush deep red. 'Yes, she's right so get away from here!' Seconded by some girls from the back. Kazuma, on the other hand, rolled his eyes out of disappointment to these ill-mannered girls. And as a guy, he wanted to help the girl but something was pulling him back. Something sinister?
No, it was because the Spike guy has already left, leaving the girl behind. And he could've swear that he saw Spike's eyes. They were startling gray, like storm clouds; pretty, but intimidating, too, as if he were analyzing the best way to take Yusuke down in a fight. 'Not that I'm interrupting your conversation girls, but,' Kazuma pointed to the direction where Spike has gone to. ',that Spike guy has already left.'
'Thanks for saving me there, Yusuke-san.' Said by the white-haired girl, bowing infront of Yusuke (Kazuma's avatar name) with respect. Her name was Clair and she's a japanese, which made his question about why she's adding honorifics answered. Well, Yu-Gi-Oh! CW Online was a very popular VRMMORPG so there's no reason he won't meet any strangers like her. Anyway, Clair invited Yusuke to a coffee shop since she's waiting for someone, definitely not Spike. 'You don't have to thank me since I did basically nothing.'
Yusuke explained, his cheeks were blushing. Other than the waiter and the bar's owner, they were the only players inside, seating at the corner side of the shop. Elegant classical music circulated around the dining area as a familiar smell of coffee beans spreaded throughout the serene atmosphere. 'I-It's okay.' She replied as she sipped on her chocolate shake.
That was the last words that slipped out off Clair's mouth and an awkward minute of silence followed. Yusuke had to do something to liven up the mood. 'Who is Spike? Is he your boyfriend?' Well, that's not a good idea to start a conversation with a girl but that was the only thing that popped out of Yusuke's head.
He's just new in Pangaea after all. But would she answer that stupid question that Yusuke gave her? He wanted to know. Clair was kinda startled but she replied it with a confident voice. 'No, Spike is my friend. But why did you ask?' 'I don't know.'
Yusuke answered as he took a short sip from his cappuccino, but it obviously sounded as a diversion. 'I'm just curious about Spike. Is he popular?' 'You're asking me if he's popular?'
She asked as she stirred the spoon on her shake. 'Well, yeah, I'm asking that.' 'Spike is really popular on this world for he was the only who has conquered seven ar-, oh wait.' Clair stared at Yusuke for a moment and sighed. 'You are a new player, aren't you?' Yusuke smiled and answered energetically.
'So that explains a lot.' She muttered as she turned to drink up her shake. 'Since you are a new player, why don't we visit the Quasar City tonight? Meryl-san will definitely go with us so don't worry about the expenses.' But you still didn't answer my question!' Yusuke exclaimed.
'Who is Spike? Why is he popular? I want to know all of these things.' 'Why are you dying to know these stuffs, huh?' Clair asked, her sparkling impression gone. 'Does it benefits you?'
'Not really, but.' 'It's just I sense something powerful from him, something God-like. And that same time that our eyes met, I knew he was one hell of a duelist. And since I'm a duelist, I want to try his powers out.' Without any reasons, she chuckled. 'I remember someone through you.' Yusuke firmed.
'Who would that be?' She smiled as she drink the last drop of her shake. He used to act like that. Careless to his words, only thinks about dueling though he remained as a good person, a real duelist and a real friend.' When Yusuke heard that, his lips formed a warm smile. 'A real duelist and friend, huh? Then it only makes me hungry to have a duel with him!'
'Are you really serious on dueling him?' 'You might not be able to defeat him.'
Yusuke raised an eyebrow. Clair smiled with confidence. 'It's because he was the only player who had conquered seven areas and the only player who got to duel Yusei.'
'He managed seven areas? And he even dueled Yusei?
What type of sorcery did he use?' Yusuke exclaimed as he grabbed Clair's shoulders, his eyes sparkling in amazement. 'I'm definitely going to duel him!' I'm getting in on this before it becomes this huge, popular 700+ chapter fic.
It seems to me well-written, sure, but they both seem a bit short. Not much happens the first chapter except an intro to the setting, and the latest seems like a brief intro to some of the characters. Since they're so short, I can't say much but that I want to have this game system. A couple questions: How long has this game been out?
I mean, if only one person has ever gotten to duel Yusei, either the entire world is incompetent, everybody you have to duel first is really hard, or it hasn't been out long enough for anybody to get very far. Another question: it says that everybody has to customize their decks, meaning there's only one Stardust Dragon (Yusei), one of each Neo-Spacian (Jaden's), and one Dark Magician Girl Yugi's, as well as one of each Number card. Except those cards are going to change owners all the time. Some go to Yuma, others go to Kite, and there are some Numbers that some random guy has. It doesn't add up. Does this rule include things like Marauding Captain or Swords, which there are hundreds of copies of? Is this saying that one person has the only one of each?
Holy crap, I had no idea this even existed. I'm in the process of writing a fan fic based on the same idea, but looks like you beat me to it. I'm sorry that I don't have much in the form of feedback to give as I have yet to properly read through this, but I will soon.
Until then, good luck with this. Edit: just read through the first two chapters. Seems like a solid start. The background behind the game was nicely introduced, but I'm guessing it'll be further developed through interactions with the more knowledgeable characters like Claire. Can't wait to see some dueling action. I'm getting in on this before it becomes this huge, popular 700+ chapter fic. It seems to me well-written, sure, but they both seem a bit short.

So you're writing a fan fic based with the same idea? Well, like I'm going to sue you for that or something. You can still continue with your fanfic:D. Marauding Captain, Swords or any other cards that has a multiple copies used in the anime are out of this rule. Other questions will be answered as the story progress. This also leads to another logistical knot. Archetypes for the most part in the animanga are exclusive to one person, so does that mean that all archetypes are unique in the game in the same way?
If so, how are the tens of thousands of people who play this game going to have enough diversity? Is it at the point where there truly are enough cards to satisfy everyone (I doubt that) or do people create their own and have them reviewed by a (possibly automated) 'checks and balances' system? Just some food for thought. :D My fan fic was inspired from the same idea, a VRMMORPG (technically a VRMMOCG), but it's diverging quite a bit at this point.
So yeah, I'm definitely not ripping off your fanfic! Although one of the protagonists of my fic, Kazuya Satoru, has a disturbingly similar name to your protagonist, Kazuma. This world is full of coincidences. Marry me, lol:D This also leads to another logistical knot. Just some food for thought. The answer is in your post^ ^: '.People create their own and have them reviewed by a (possibly automated) 'checks and balances' system.'
